What does the $1,000 budget include?
Both qualified on ordinary new US item offers, without required coupons, membership, financing or used stock.[2][8] This is an item-price ceiling before tax and delivery, not a delivered-cost guarantee. At our October 27, 2026 check, Horizon accepted T202 orders with expected shipping the week of November 9, 2026—an estimated dispatch window, not an arrival promise.[1][2] Recheck the current offer and delivery total.
This guide is research-based, not hands-on testing. We compare documented equipment and ownership compromises; we have not measured noise, cushioning, acceleration or reliability.
Which treadmill under $1,000 should you buy?
Spend more for space and controls you will actually use, not simply because you can reach this ceiling. These two conventional treadmills make that decision concrete: a roomier powered-incline setup versus a compact entry model. Neither is a desk-walking pad, and we have not padded the ranking with interchangeable compact machines.
Two conventional treadmills compared
1. Horizon T202: choose it for belt room and powered hills
Roomier belt; standalone console
Horizon T202
20 × 60-inch belt · 0.5–12 mph · powered 0–12% incline · 325 lb stated capacity.[1]
Our first comparison when extra belt space and console-adjusted hills justify moving beyond an entry treadmill.
The T202 makes the upgrade tangible: a wider, longer surface than the Sunny, plus powered incline rather than manually repositioned feet.[1][8] EasyDial controls put speed and grade adjustments within reach, while the manual documents quick-start and built-in workouts without a paid training subscription.[1][4] It suits buyers who would rather bring their own entertainment than choose equipment around an integrated coaching screen.
Do not translate the 12 mph ceiling into a promise about demanding running sessions. We have not measured response under load. The stated speed and incline maxima also do not establish performance at both limits together.
Who it suits
Buyers prioritizing belt room, powered hill changes and independent operation, with a planned workout room and flexibility over dispatch timing.
Who should skip it
Anyone needing immediate shipment, under-bed storage or frequent relocation. Skip it if its stated 325 lb limit does not accommodate you.[1][2]
Ownership trade-off: Horizon lists a 187 lb machine, lifetime frame/motor coverage and only one year for parts and labor.[1] That is not lifetime free repair. The orderable backorder is another real compromise: choose it only if the current ship estimate fits your plans.

2. Sunny SF-T4400SMART: choose it for a compact entry setup
Compact conventional workout layout
Sunny SF-T4400SMART
48.4 × 15.7-inch technical surface · 0.5–9 mph · three manual incline positions · 285 lb stated capacity.[8]
The alternative when spending the full budget would buy features or space you do not need.
The SF-T4400SMART provides a standing console, handrails, nine presets and Bluetooth SunnyFit connectivity in a smaller format.[8] We use the technical belt dimensions, not the rounded 49 × 16-inch marketing description.[8] This recommendation is for the SMART model, not an assumed equivalent legacy SF-T4400.
Its narrow, shorter belt is the central compromise. Check your stride fit rather than assuming the listed top speed makes it an equally roomy running machine. Manual incline also means planning the setting before your session, not expecting powered hill changes from the console.
Who it suits
Entry buyers who want conventional controls, accept the compact surface and manual incline, and have room for a 103.6 lb machine.[8]
Who should skip it
Buyers wanting powered hills, a long/wide running surface or capacity above its 285 lb rating. It is not an under-desk treadmill.[8]
Ownership trade-off: the product table lists three-year structural-frame coverage and 180 days for other parts/components. Sunny's general US policy separately lists one-year treadmill-motor coverage; confirm the applicable supplied terms and service arrangements.[8][9] Do not equate the frame headline with comprehensive long-term repairs.

What does upgrading past the entry tier actually buy?
Here, the strongest reasons are usable belt space and powered grade adjustment—not a speculative durability advantage. Choose the T202 if the Sunny's compact deck or manual incline would constrain your intended sessions. Keep the entry option if those limitations are acceptable; unused features are not value.
For frequent running, compare our running treadmill guide before committing. For a broader shortlist, see best treadmills overall; those guides are not restricted to this price cap. Our under-$500 guide explains the lower-budget trade-offs without making another walking-pad ranking here.
Will the room and delivered cost work?
The T202 is 76 × 34 × 57 inches assembled and 48 × 34 × 62 inches folded; the Sunny is 62.4 × 26.8 × 50.2 inches assembled.[1][8] These are frame dimensions, not required operating areas. Apply each supplied manual's clearances, measure doors and stairs, and check overhead space at your intended incline.
Check electrical preparation before committing to delivery. Horizon's manual calls for a grounded, dedicated circuit of at least 15 amps.[4] Have a qualified electrician resolve compatibility with your home's requirements; do not bypass protective devices. Its linked guide also specifies a clear exit zone at least 79 inches behind the treadmill.[5] A folded footprint cannot stand in for that operating clearance.
Ask what delivery includes. Horizon's standard service excludes steps and room placement; upgraded services depend on location and availability.[6] Sunny's economy-shipping promotion has geographic and freight exclusions, so do not assume free delivery to every address.[10] Add tax, assembly or moving help to your own ceiling before ordering. See our folding treadmill guide if storage dominates the decision.
What upkeep and repair costs should you allow for?
Set aside money and time for model-specific maintenance. Horizon's linked guide specifies deck lubrication every three months or 150 miles with 100% silicone lubricant.[5] Follow the supplied procedure, not merely the console reminder; do not transfer that interval automatically to the Sunny.
Confirm local service and potential call-out charges. Horizon's manual describes a 150-mile authorized-service radius, with additional mileage the consumer's responsibility.[4] Its direct-store returns require authorization within 30 days of delivery; freight and handling costs can apply, and original packaging matters.[7] A budget fit is not enough if returning or repairing the machine would be impractical.

How we selected these treadmills
We used saved US offer evidence, exact-model manufacturer specifications, Horizon's model-labelled manual index and linked documents, plus shipping, return and warranty policies.[1][2][3] We separated orderability from immediate stock and item price from delivered cost. These are editorial fit judgments, not test scores. We retained only two supported conventional picks instead of filling slots with unresolved models.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the roomier choice?
The T202 has a listed 20 × 60-inch belt versus the Sunny's 48.4 × 15.7-inch technical surface. Dimensions help screening but do not guarantee stride comfort.[1][8]
Is the T202 in stock for immediate shipping?
No. At the October 27, 2026 check it was an orderable backorder, with expected shipping the week of November 9, 2026. Reconfirm before paying.[1][2]
Does under $1,000 include tax and delivery?
No. The ceiling covers the ordinary new item, before tax and delivery. Your address and service choices can push the final total higher.[6][10]
Which has powered incline?
The T202 has powered 0–12% incline; the Sunny has three manually selected positions. These are different adjustment systems, not equivalent console features.[1][8]
Does the T202 require a subscription?
No paid training membership is required for its documented standalone quick-start and built-in workouts. Optional app services are a separate decision.[4]
Should I spend the full budget?
Only if the extra belt room and powered hills solve your actual buying problem. Otherwise compare the compact entry option and preserve money for delivery, upkeep and possible repairs.
